Li entered the comics industry after he graduated from high school in 1982, working for Yuk Long Limited and Season Publishing Company. In 1984, he published Wisely series, and in 1987, self-published Tong Men Shao Nian, a strikingly compelling comics which catapulted him to fame. Assassins, Tian Yao Ji and Superbaby were subsequently published. As a comics artist with distinctive style, Li became widely acclaimed in Japan, with works such as Posh! The Gang, Miss Chan and My Nation being published in Japanese magazines. He was even invited to participate in Asia in Comic, a touring comics exhibition around the country, and illustrate for Kagamijigoku, a short story by the famous Japanese writer Edogawa Ranpo. Li is regarded as the most prominent Hong Kong artist in the Japanese comics scene. Even more impressively, his works were already introduced to the Western world in the 90s. In 1998, Spirit was translated into French and published in Europe. Comic The Beast is published in French in 2016, and the latest work Little Circle is launched in Malaysia & Singapore at the same year.
Li is now a freelance comics artist and painter. In recent years, he has also been engaged in other creative fields. Some years ago he collaborated with the writer Dung Kai-cheung to create Prixoes Diagonais. In addition, Li has worked in the fields of product design and advertisement illustration, creating commercial illustrations and design works for clients including United Colors of Benetton, Nike, Watsons, Ocean Park, MTR Corporation, etc.
1982年中學畢業，隨即投身漫畫行列，曾加入玉郎機構和斯辰出版社。1984年發表《衛斯理》系列，1987年因自資出版《同門少年》而聲名大噪，自此發展其獨特的漫畫生涯，作品包括《刺秦》、《天妖記》、《Superbaby》等。其風格獨樹一幟的漫畫作品在日本備受注目，曾於日本雜誌發表〈Posh！少年隊〉、〈陳小姐〉、〈我的國〉等作品，亦應邀參加日本《Asia in Comic》巡迴漫畫展覽，同期為江戶川亂步小說繪成短篇〈鏡地獄〉，是日本畫壇上當道的香港漫畫家。此外，利志達的作品亦早在90年代衝出亞洲。1998年，作品《石神》被翻譯成法文，於歐洲出版。漫畫作品《The Beast》於2016年推出法文版，最新作品《大圓天》於同年在馬來西亞及新加坡推出。
利志達現為自由漫畫創作人、畫家。近年拓展創作領域，數年前更與作家董啟章合作推出《對角藝術》。此外，他還參與產品設計及廣告插畫工作，商業插畫及設計客戶包括United Colors of Benetton、Nike、屈臣氏、海洋公園、港鐵等。
